An Interview with Christine Giscombe on The Shunamite Woman

Today's interview installment comes form the wonderful Christine Giscombe of Born to Excel, a platform which she uses to "inspire, equip and empower" others.  You can find her at Christinegiscombe.com. Read as she explains why The Shunamite Woman is her favourite woman of the Bible and breaks down what we, as modern women, stand to learn from this Biblical lady's encounter with God.

Who is your favourite woman of the Bible and why? What would you say that modern women can learn from her?

My favourite woman is The Shunamite Woman- who in the Bible, incidentally, does not have a name. She appears to have been quite well off and lived with her husband, but was never blessed with a child.

The Shunamite Woman also provided a place to stay for the man of God, Elijah (the prophet), so he would have a place to rest his head whenever he came to the village to preach. When asked by Elijah what she was in need of, the woman responded that she was in need of nothing and she was content living amongst her people. However, Elijah prophesied that she would give birth to a son a year later. The Shunamite Woman's response was 'don't joke with me!' as Her husband was old; it seemed near impossible to conceive and she believed the moment to have children was passed. But, true to the prophetic word, she had a son a year later.

What do I get from this story? When you are at peace with who you are, and even when you don't openly speak what you really hope for, God knows the true desires of your heart. Some dreams die inside us, but with God nothing is too late or impossible. More importantly when you give to God, He has a way of giving back in ways that are exceedingly and abundantly above our greatest expectations. Amazing!!!

Please finish the sentence: I am a Christian woman who is…

I am a Christian woman who is in love with my Heavenly Father; whose mission is to share the gospel through telling my story. God can use imperfect people and I am grateful that He saved me from a life of destruction.

Please finish the sentence: I am a Christian woman who is not…

I am a Christian woman who is not afraid to share my faith with others by giving of myself and using my talents. I am always willing to love.

Any final words of encouragement?

God wants us to come into the full knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ and truth about His word. What have we got to lose? Try God and see.... He will never let you down.

God loves us so much that He desires us to live a life full of purpose. When we know who we belong to, we will know who we are in Christ. We are beautiful daughters of purpose and destiny. Isn't that an amazing revelation???
