An Interview with Torrie Chatman on The Woman at the Well

Today's interview is with Torrie Chatman, founder of Womenofbeloved.com- a "women's ministry whose desire is to be the hands and feet of Jesus". Be blessed as she expands upon The Woman at the Well, who is her favourite Biblical matriarch, and all that we stand to learn from her as modern women of God.

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE WOMAN OF THE BIBLE AND WHY? WHAT WOULD YOU SAY THAT MODERN WOMEN CAN LEARN FROM HER?

Whew. This is a hard one. But if I have to narrow it down to one, it would be the Samaritan woman or the woman at the well. I love this story because He waited on her. The Messiah of the world went out His way to come face to face with this woman with a history. We know that she had five husbands but we don’t know what happened to them. They could have been killed at war, gotten sick etc. Regardless, we can assume that she was familiar with heartache, loss, and isolation. I’ve been there often.

She went looking for a solution to quench her thirst and ended up drinking from a well that never runs dry. After Jesus tells her all about herself, she runs and tells everyone within earshot about Him. What we can learn from her is that God doesn’t care what you look like or what you’ve been through. He will meet you where you are and change your life.

PLEASE FINISH THE SENTENCE: I AM A CHRISTIAN WOMAN WHO IS…

I am a Christian woman who is striving to be all that God has ordained for me to be. In order for me to do that, I have embraced all that I am and all that I am not. My past is not pretty by any means but it’s mine. I know that I have been graced to be Torrie.

PLEASE FINISH THE SENTENCE: I AM A CHRISTIAN WOMAN WHO IS NOT…

I am a Christian woman who is not content with blending in with everyone around me. The body of Christ is gifted, layered, & different. We shouldn’t all look, sound, and talk just alike. Accept all of your little quirks and what you bring to the table. It may not look anything like you’ve seen before and that’s okay. Freedom really comes when you accept you.

ANY FINAL WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT?

Everything that has touched you had to go first through God to get to you. If you allow Him to, everything that was meant to destroy you will be a stepping stool. Use the tools you have to transform into everything you have been destined to be.
