Those who know me well will tell you that there are 2 times in the year that I tend to get especially reflective:
My birthday
New year
If you, like me, haven't quite gotten a chance to really sit with your thoughts about 2022/23 here are 3 reflective questions/journal prompts to get you started:
1) What went well last year?
It can be really easy (and even tempting) to reel off the things that didn't go so well last year; so I like to start with the positives. Often times you'll find that you've done better than you think, taking you out of the negative thought pattern of "I suck and this is why..." which is never any fun or very productive!
(Bonus points if you can include at least 1-3 things that helped increase your visibility this year)
2) What didn't go so well?
Like I already said, this is the part that's usually the easiest for me. If you're a similar personality (shout out to my recovering perfectionists), this is your opportunity to purge. What I love about this process is that question 3 will soon have you evaluating and turning the things listed here into positive action items for the new year!
(Bonus points if you can include at least 1-3 things that held you back from increasing your visibility this year)
3) What do I need to scale or change to make things better in the new year?
In other words:
How can you build upon what worked last year to help you get even better results in the new year?
What do you need to stop/start doing this year to ensure that you don't continue to repeat the actions that led to last year's more undesirable results?
Et viola!
