Recently, I had the pleasure of being interviewed on the Melanted and Proud podcast
It was a great experience that allowed me to pause, sit down, and reflect on my journey so far in terms of the challenges I’ve overcome to get to where I am today
From launching The Far Above Rubies Collection in its first iteration as a blog, to then learning PR to get more eyes on it, to coaching people on PR, and, ultimately, turning it into a luxury retreat business
For example, I’ve experienced the death of family and friends, my parents have been sick (sometimes at the same time and sometimes right before a launch). I’ve also experienced health issues, depression, anxiety, and feeling unmotivated. I’ve had to navigate the loss of friendships, money being funny, limiting beliefs, and, at times, family and friends not seeing the vision
Although I didn’t get to go through everything, just talking about and looking back on some of the things I’ve achieved, I realised that I’d accomplished so much while navigating life
A question that stuck out to me was: “What kept you going, and why haven’t you given up?”
To which I answered:
For me, it comes down to the fact that I know that what I’m doing is God inspired
I never launched my blog, started coaching, or hosting retreats off my own back
These are very much divine downloads and so for me, when things have gotten tough, I’ve not stopped because I’ve known this
My faith in God, in a higher power and my belief in my purpose (aka my why) is what keeps me going because in and of myself I would’ve stopped ages ago. And so, that’s what I would encourage others to get clear about
When the going gets tough and life is life-ing remember that, although your vision or your plan is your GPS, your why is the fuel that will keep you going
And cause you not to stop
It’s important to remind ourselves of this, especially at this time of year, when the excitement about your dreams and goals for the year may have long since worn off
And reality has set in about the amount of time, money, and sacrifice it'll cost you to bring your vision to pass
If you haven’t done it yet, now is the time to get clear on why these goals are important to you and where they came from. And if you already have a why written down somewhere, maybe tucked away out of sight, dust it off and familiarise yourself with it again so that you can have that fuel in your tank, that oil in your lamp (like in the parable of the 10 virgins) to keep going in your journey
