I always say that one of the ways that God speaks to me is through repetition
Which is quite fitting since “repetition is the mother of learning”
And, recently, there have been three separate occasions where God has spoken to me about the power of surrender
Here’s how 👇🏾
#1 THROUGH SCRIPTURE
In my personal Bible study time, I am currently reading 1st Chronicles
Recently, I’ve been in 1st Chronicles 29 specifically (where King David, who originally wanted to build the temple of God is told by God that it is his son, Solomon, who will build it instead)
Because King David had it originally in his heart to do the building, he had started to gather craftsmen, raw materials, gold, and the plans. He had even begun to make the provisions before God made it clear that it would not be him to do so.
With this is mind, King David let the people know that, this would be Solomon’s project as the next king of Israel
But, because he was young and inexperienced, he would need their help
Upon David’s request they all joined forces to give materials and their talents toward the building of the temple. A joyous David then gives thanks through a psalm
In which he expresses how wonderful it is that they can give to God in that way and that it is only through God’s grace that they can do that because they are only giving back to God what he has given to them
In short, he acknowledges that they are simply vessels who are blessed to be a blessing; surrender and give back to God in that way
#2 THROUGH MY OWN LIFE
Since I’m starting to build towards Media Magic 2025, I’ve been reflecting on the last one
When planning and going through all the motions leading up to Media Magic 2024 in Tulum Mexico, I did a lot of worrying and carried a lot of the weight of responsibility re making my first retreat a success
Throughout the planning and, honestly, right before we all landed in Mexico in July, I struggled with letting go, trusting God, and surrendering this big task to him
But as I sat in that plane, and right as we were landing I said to myself, “Wow, Nina, this is happening and you’re just going to have to get out of God’s way and let Him do what He needs to do”. Luckily, He did!
And, upon self-reflection and a conversation with a close friend, I realised I had wasted so much time worrying, feeling inadequate, and unworthy, only for God to have his way in the end anyway
Because this retreat and the work we did there was something He had called me to do
In hindsight, I’ve realised that I’m just a vessel
So it's not my responsibility to make Media Magic a success
Like David I can use my talents, gifts, resources, capital, network and so on to make Media Magic a success, but the rest is God
#3 THROUGH CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHERS
The third time God spoke to me about the power of surrender, was just before I picked up my phone to put down my thoughts for this post you’re reading
As that’s when I really knew God was trying to get my attention
It was through a conversation with someone I know who was speaking about how she’s enjoying being a new grandma
She playfully expressed how if anyone had told her last year that she was going to be a grandma this year, she would have cried and even laughed at the thought. But now?
She specifically said, “I am enjoying the ebb and flow of it all”- which, once again, reminded me of the themes of surrender and stewardship mentioned above
In points 1 and 2
And this is what I mean when I say God speaks to me in repetition
When something is coming up repeatedly and in quick succession, I know it’s something God wants me to notice
But, I don’t think that this message is just for me
Because…
I am called to women who are called to make an impact; who recognise that the only way they can do what they have been called to do is to get their voice, message, mission, and vision out there
Which is where PR comes in
The issue with this is that sometimes, we feel it is our responsibility to shoulder the weight of our callings
And make it a “success”
I’m here to remind you to let go, and to surrender because God makes provision for any God-given vision
In other words…
God would not call you to do something impossible to do
Like in David’s situation, God has already endowed you with everything you need to succeed
Even if you can’t see it, it hasn’t been revealed yet, or you don’t feel like you’ve got the resources, network or whatever else - know that you and God are the majority
Work like it depends on you, but engage in spiritual things (such as prayer) like it depends on God
The two of you together working in tandem and partnership is what will bring your vision to pass
Because “faith without works is dead” (James 2:17)
