Why this simple question will get you anything you want in life

When I was a toddler, my mum says that I was mesmerised by the fireplace

So much so that I wouldn't heed her warnings not to go near it

One day, exasperated with this constant song and dance, she allowed me to touch the rail that guarded it

According to her, not only did I immediately pull my hand back from the heat, I never tried to get close to the fireplace again

In other words, this (newfound) fear protected me and kept me safe

Here’s my point 👇🏾

Viewed in this way

(as the evolutionary protective measure that it is)

it's no wonder that the presence of fear is often seen as a sign that you should not do something or an omen that means you should stop. However the issue with this is that, when it comes to fulfilling our goals and dreams, our breakthrough usually lies on the other side of our fear

With this in mind…

Instead of trying to avoid fear, I now ask myself one simple question: "What is my fear trying to tell me?" and troubleshoot from there

For example, when we were still in the planning stages of Media Magic, I started to get jittery about the original hotel that we were going to stay at
This was because they were being really slow in their responses and uncommunicative otherwise

By asking myself this question, I realised that I was scared that if this was how they were treating us before our stay then our experience actually staying there wouldn't be much better

Which, of course would ruin the whole retreat

This then allowed me to remove this risk by looking for other venues and ultimately deciding to go elsewhere, which is how we ended up at the beautiful 16 Tulum Villa instead

Which also gave way to comments like this 👇🏾

All of that to say, don't ignore your fears. By listening to what they're trying to tell you (about what you don't want to happen), you can change course before it's too late (to get what you ultimately want)
